Watching the USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) launch all of its fighters during "the final flight operations in direct support of Operation Inherent Resolve" is pretty freaking amazing. According to the Department of Defense, "the Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group is deployed to the area supporting Operation Inherent Resolve, conducting maritime security operations, strike operations in Iraq and Syria as directed, and theater security cooperation efforts." DoD ideo by Mass Communication Specialist 3rd Class James Bleyle. Read more: http://sploid.gizmodo.com/watch-a-us-navy-aircraft-carrier-launch-all-its-f-18s-1708721190

The United States Navy (USN) is the naval warfare service branch of the United States Armed Forces and one of the seven uniformed services of the United States. It is the largest and most capable navy in the world, with the highest combined battle fleet tonnage and the world's largest aircraft carrier fleet, with eleven in service, and two new carriers under construction. With 319,421 personnel on active duty and 99,616 in the Ready Reserve, the Navy is the third largest of the service branches. It has 282 deployable combat vessels and more than 3,700 operational aircraft as of March 2018, making it the second largest and second most powerful air force in the world. The U.S. Navy traces its origins to the Continental Navy, which was established during the American Revolutionary War and was effectively disbanded as a separate entity shortly after that. The U.S. Navy played a significant role in the American Civil War by blockading the Confederacy and seizing control of its rivers. It represented the central role in the World War II defeat of Imperial Japan. The US Navy emerged from World War II as the most powerful navy in the world, a title it still holds to this day. The 21st century U.S. Navy maintains a sizable global presence, deploying in strength in such areas as the Western Pacific, the Mediterranean, and the Indian Ocean. It is a blue-water navy with the ability to project force onto the littoral regions of the world, engage in forwarding deployments during peacetime and rapidly respond to regional crises, making it a frequent actor in U.S. foreign and military policy. The return of great power competition, emphasizes the imperative of maintaining maritime superiority. Great power competition increases risks to U.S. security and prosperity and requires the U.S. Navy to be prepared for great power conflict. "The Navy is to serve as America's primary forward deployed force, the most limber and flexible force that we have for a multiple of things, but primarily when if comes to the top issues of keeping the arteries of commerce open on the high seas, the presence factor of American Power around the globe, keeping peace through presence, and when needed, the ability to provide the kinetic actions to suppress and or conquer foes" - Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral John M. Richardson, USN Produced by the U.S. Navy Band - Music - "Over the Whale's Acre" By Musician 1st Class Andrew J. Skaggs
